Walking Day

This game is currently available on itch.io
Published Time: 2020
Story
Walking Day is an autobiographical walking simulator based on my personal experiences living with chronic fatigue and breathing difficulties.
In the game, players guide a character from a bus stop to a museum using simple left–right key presses. The mechanic seems easy—until the character’s body begins to resist, simulating the real-life impact of asthma or heart conditions on daily movement.
Features
-
Autobiographical design: Built from real lived experience, turning a mundane activity into a struggle worth understanding.
-
Fatigue-based mechanics: The faster you press, the sooner exhaustion sets in. Players must balance speed with stamina.
-
Dynamic heartbeats and dialogue: As the character grows tired, their heartbeat changes, and friends in the game begin to show concern—mirroring real-world empathy.
-
No time limit, just arrival: The game ends when the player reaches the museum. It’s not about winning, it’s about understanding what the walk feels like.

Game development status
The current version of the game is complete and freely available on itch.io.
Future iterations may expand the experience with new scenes based on other parts of my life, continuing the goal of helping others build empathy through play.
For a full breakdown of the game's development process and design reasoning, you can read the project log here.
